Books

My books are varied in style, each one finding its own rhythm and form. Whether I’m playing on the boundary between fiction and nonfiction (Voluptuous Pleasure and I Can’t Get You), making prose feel like poetry (Deep Salt Water and Swim), turning history into story (The Lucky Child and Inner Hunger), or asking fiction to hold the fullness of philosophy (Sophrosyne), my books seek to understand desire, the body, and how we shape our future and past through the stories we tell.

Three of my books have been translated, most recently Swim (as Elle Nage) and Voluptuous Pleasure (as Voluptés), both translated into French by Madeleine Stratford, who was nominated for a Governor General’s Award in Translation (2016) for Elle Nage.
